"Working with NPCO has been another great internship experience for me. I was able to develop skills for my career as well as discover some of my own personal interests. Business writing was an area I needed to improve on, and I was given many opportunities to draft emails and press releases for NPCO. Part of my responsibilities was to call prospective runners and follow up with their online applications to be on the team. This helped me become more comfortable talking on the phone to people I did not know. As for my personal development, recruiting runners for team NPCO inspired me to start running races and to join the Half Marathon team! I have always liked to run, but have never run in a race. Since the start of my internship, I have run two local 5K and plan on running the BIX in July. I was an athlete in high school, and I have found that running in races is comparable to 'game day' in other sports. It gives your runs during the week a purpose and a goal to work for at the finish."
